It’s a great question.
The term “crystal” gets bounded around a lot and I often find, as a crystal healer, people don’t necessarily understand what a crystal actually is, or what to do with it.
Tadah! The birth of my business! Ha.
In all honesty, I too bought lots of crystals for many years, without really understanding what they were or what to actually do with them.
My business started after becoming a qualified crystal healer and having a desire to share information about crystals and their abilities to heal, as well as helping others feel better about themselves.
So, for my first blog post, I’m going to explore:
· what are healing crystals?
· what is your energy?
· how do crystals impact your energy system?
· my top 5 favourite crystals and why they are my faves
What are healing crystals?
A crystal is formed within the core of our Earth. This itself, is a magnificent fact. How amazing that something that is born of the planet we are born to, can help us heal. And of course, if you think of it like that, it makes perfect sense.
Gas or liquid in the Earth’s core experiences intense heat or pressure, and over millions of years adapts to turn into the crystals you see today.
That’s right – the crystals you are intrigued by, love and adore are way older than you or any of your relatives!
If crystals were to be passed down through the generations – which many are as family heirlooms – there may be a very slight difference in some (such as tiny points on a clear quartz being formed) but it is unlikely to be seen by the human eye.
The sheer amount of time they take to form means they are our energetic ancestors, and will far outlive us.
Knowing this, you can appreciate just how amazing, powerful and special crystals are, can’t you?
Being born of the Earth’s core, crystals are formed of the Earth’s energy. Everything around us is made up of energy, us included.
When we understand this, we can start to appreciate how great an impact crystals can have on us.
What is YOUR energy? And how do healing crystals work?
Imagine each crystal as a pure ball of energy.
Now imagine yourself standing in a large ball, that is malleable – you can move in any direction you want, you can’t necessarily see or touch this “ball” and yet it is always there.
Your energy “ball” is the first thing to experience everything you experience in your life – walking into a room, kissing your partner, hugging your children.
So your large “ball” is your energy system (also known as subtle energy and aura) and a crystal has its own energy system. When the two come together there is an energetic connection, and a change in energy is experienced.
Now crystals, being from the Earth’s core, are pure, positive balls of energy.
They all have their own individual healing properties, the understanding of which comes from a combination of understanding the atomic structure of crystals, their colour, the historical experience of crystals (there is a great history to using crystals for healing benefits, I will touch on that another time).
So, when you introduce a crystal to your energy system – and this can be done from just carrying one with you – the crystal starts interacting with your energy system.
When this happens, your energy system soaks up the energy of the crystal.
Remember – you are an energetic being. You will soak up the energy around you at any time, in any place. Imagine being a sponge and energy is the water – you, as the sponge, will always soak up the water and you need to make sure the water is fresh and clean to be able to clean with your sponge (living healthily within your energy system).
The same with energy – you only want to soak up energy that is positive and effective in your life, not negativity or things that hold you back (make sure you check out the upcoming 1st April 2019 blog post on the importance of cleansing your crystals).
For health in the holistic sense (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health) your energy system needs to be strong enough to withstand external influences (such as negativity around you, the media, problems in life, small irritations in life etc) and not soak up all the negativity around you.
If you do soak it up, and rest assured we all do to varying degrees, you will experience symptoms that indicate you are out of alignment / flow with yourself.
Maintaining a flow of energy throughout your energy system ensures health and wellness. Blockages like a build-up of negativity can impact your wellbeing.
You can see the symptoms of this through things like headaches, feeling irritable, not being able to communicate with those around you, feeling lonely, having aches and pains or bigger issues. The list of potential symptoms is endless and variable because we are all individual beings who respond and react differently to different situations.
Being aware of how you feel is a great way to understand what is going on with your energy system.
And we will work on that together, for you to build an understanding of what is going on in and around your body so you have the ability to be empowered enough to acknowledge and take action, if needed.
So what I mean is…
Crystals are a powerful tool you can implement in your life to feel better.
To feel better in all areas of your life.
To improve your wellbeing.
To make things happen for you.
It may all seem a bit far fetched at the moment, and you may be thinking “but how will crystals help me get on with my teenager who seems to have turned into a monster?!” but fear not – we will get there.
This is a journey, and this blog is the first step.
Just be aware that crystals are powerful and they can have an amazing impact on your life. They work with your energy system to release any unneeded energy, and to boost your energy system when there is a lack.
Still with me?
My top 5 favourite crystals
1. Amethyst
The beauty that is Amethyst! One of the most well known crystals, purple in colour and if you haven’t seen many crystals, it is probably one you have seen. I loved it because it was the first crystal I actively worked with – I carried it around with me on a daily basis to work through my crippling anxiety at the time (more on that in a later post). It’s great for working with your Crown Chakra (we will explore chakras more fully in a future blog post) connecting to your higher source, relaxing, feeling at peace and content.
2. Blue Lace Agate
I truly don’t think I could ever tire of looking at this gorgeous crystal. Blue and white lines form in an individual way to create blue lace agate, the crystal great for working with your throat chakra and communicating in a way that is understood and clear whilst maintaining your cool. Definitely something I struggled with in the past, and by working with this one (more on how to work with your crystals in a later blog post) I have developed better ways to communicate that mean the people I am talking to hear what I am saying, rather than get lost in the way I am saying it (I’m sure that will make sense to a few of you).
3. Kyanite
Another great throat chakra crystal. This one I turned to for confidence when first giving presentations at the workshops I run (I would always bunk off school on presentation days, although I don’t condone that!) and more importantly for me, for accepting myself as I truly am. Crystal healer and all. It was a hard lesson for me, and something I struggled with for a really long time. Self-acceptance leads to mental freedom, and this is a big thing that comes up for my clients. So Kyanite is a winner in my eyes, because it really did help me accept myself.
4. Labradorite
Oh what a darling crystal! Not only is it actually a stunningly beautiful crystal – you will always find different colours - blues, greens, pinks, yellows - within it and its one of those ones that will keep catching your eye. I love this Third Eye crystal because it acts like a boomerang for negativity – back to sender it goes! It’s a great positivity protector and also enhances your creative juices.
5. Rainbow Fluorite
This is a crystal I have to give a lot of thanks to because without it my business wouldn’t really have got off the ground like it did. It’s a great motivator, so when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed, I don’t know where to start, or quite frankly just can’t be arsed, this is the crystal I reach out for. The crystal version of a kick up the jacksie!
