Now, more than ever, it seems we are inundated with messages about problems - if it isn't the pandemic and the impact it is making on our planet, it is more localized issues like supermarkets running out of toilet roll.
For weeks now we've had message after message, from the mainstream media as well as from messages being passed around friendship and family groups, with so many issues, concerns, anxieties that we are all a bit overwhelmed by it all.
In times like these we need to remember to do 2 things:
1. Take a step back from it all
Get a bit of perspective when it comes to everything that is going on and find out what is real, what we need to hear and what can wait. Overwhelming your brain with information is only going to do one thing, overwhelm you. You won't be able to deal with the information you get so its not as if it will help you avoid anything.
2. Monitor how it makes us feel
Overexposure to anything is bad for us. The sun, sweet food, the news. Reassess how often you tune in to either mainstream media or the messages circulating and limit your exposure. You don't need to overload your brain with all this information to get through the next little while of uncertainty. You do however need your brain to be fully functioning and not in panic mode. So limit how often you delve into COVID-19 information for your own sanity.
And one last thing, remember to reach out.
We may not be able to physically come together but one beautiful thing to come of all of this is the rise and regrowth of communities.
Reach out to family and friends and chat, share jokes, have conversations you would have had before all this started.
Sending you all lots of love,
Lanna
